Political Affairs Update

Last month, the LUGPA Political Affairs Committee hosted ten political events in Washington, DC to promote LUGPA’s 2018 legislative agenda. LUGPA’s political events are small, intimate meetings between LUGPA members and members of Congress, where we can present LUGPA’s legislative agenda in-depth to lawmakers and engage in a dialogue with them. LUGPA political affairs events are bipartisan and engage members of both the Senate and the House.

In April, LUGPA hosted political events for:

  • Representative Kevin Brady (R-Texas)
  • Representative Tony Cárdenas (D-California)
  • Senator Ben Cardin (D-Maryland)
  • Representative Frank Pallone (D-New Jersey)
  • Representative Erik Paulsen (R-Minnesota)
  • Representative Peter Roskam (R-Illinois)
  • Representative Raul Ruiz (D-California)
  • Representative Kurt Schraeder (D-Oregon)
  • Representative Kyrsten Sinema (D-Arizona)
  • Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-Michigan)

LUGPA physicians who come to DC to help with our political efforts do not simply attend events such as those listed above. While they are in town, LUGPA physicians are guided by LUGPA consultants, staff, and experienced members of the Political Affairs Committee through a host of brief meetings with members of Congress or their staffs in the House and Senate office buildings to deliver messaging on our hot button issues of the moment.

LUGPA physicians overwhelmingly tell us that they find the DC experience eye-opening, and indispensable to their understanding of the political process. We encourage your group to send a physician and/or senior administrator to Washington, DC to attend our events and Capitol Hill visits with the LUGPA Political Affairs Committee. Our efforts have the greatest impact when lawmakers hear from our member urologists, especially their own constituents. If you are interested in attending a future LUGPA fly-in or would like more information, please contact Morgan Cox in the LUGPA office at mcox@lugpa.org.

The LUGPA Political Affairs Committee extends its sincere gratitude to the following groups whose contributions made the April events possible:
