LUGPA, in conjunction with MedReviews, LLC, publishers of Reviews in Urology, successfully developed and hosted the inaugural Prostate Cancer Academy in Denver, Col. in September 2016, a unique educational seminar that combined senior Urology residents, Urology Oncology fellows and early-career urologists. This one and one half-day educational session presented the latest developments for all stages of prostate cancer. The course content and faculty was Chaired by Herb Lepor, MD and Neal Shore, MD, FACS.
Prostate Cancer Academy attendees received extensive education on prostate cancer diagnosis and management, advanced monitoring and care options, novel pharmaceutical therapies and surgical advancements. Topics discussed included: PSA Screening Controversy: & Legislative Policy Implications.; Prostate Cancer Screening Biomarkers; The Role of MRI in Prostate Biopsy: Who and How to Biopsy; Ablation of Prostate Cancer: Is it Ready for Prime Time?; IMRT/Proton Beam/Cyberknife: Pros and Cons; managing advanced prostate cancer patients, inclusive of antiresorptive therapies, novel oral hormonal therapies, androgen deprivation therapies, immunotherapies, radiopharmaceuticals, and chemotherapies. Additionally, the current and future importance of the independent integrated Urology practice model was reviewed.
This exclusive educational opportunity was a blend of academic and independent urology practice experiences for the 100 individuals who were nominated to attend the event.
