Newly Elected President Scott Sellinger Charts Course for Leading Independent Urology Nonprofit

Chicago, IL, November 16, 2024 – LUGPA, the national voice representing independent urology in the United States, announced that Scott B. Sellinger, M.D., was elected to a one-year term as president of LUGPA’s Board of Directors. In his incoming presidential address at the LUGPA 2024 Annual Meeting, Dr. Sellinger outlined his goals for his term as president, which include addressing legislative challenges, fostering collaboration and driving innovation.

“I am incredibly honored to lead LUGPA, an organization that is pivotal to the future of independent urology practice,” Dr. Sellinger said. “Ensuring a sustainable model for independent physicians is paramount to providing high-quality, affordable urologic care to our patients. Additionally, prioritizing collaboration and enhancing our educational programs will help to drive engagement and innovation. My vision is to foster a community where independent urologists can thrive, adapt to changes and continue to advance the quality of health care.”

A key focus for Dr. Sellinger’s term as LUGPA president includes continuing to champion LUGPA’s policy priorities, especially promoting reform to the Medicare physician fee schedule, which has considerable impact on the financial sustainability of independent practices. Dr. Sellinger also hopes to continue to explore options for LUGPA to offer value to members and to strengthen ties with partner organizations to increase educational offerings and to move advocacy goals forward.

“Dr. Sellinger has demonstrated years of dedication to LUGPA and its mission to preserve and advance the independent practice of urology,” said Celeste Kirschner, chief executive officer of LUGPA. “His extensive experience and leadership in the field, along with his passion for advancing urologic care, make him an ideal president for LUGPA. I am confident that under his guidance, LUGPA will continue to advance and strengthen independent urology group practices across the country.”

Since 2015, Dr. Sellinger has been a member of the LUGPA Board of Directors, where he has served as secretary and president-elect. He has also held leadership roles that include president of the Southeastern Section of the American Urological Association in 2018 and president of the American Association of Clinical Urologists in 2019. Dr. Sellinger has served on the Board of Advanced Urology Institute (AUI) for several years, representing his Tallahassee, FL care center. In January 2021, he became AUI's second president, and currently chairs their Advanced Prostate Cancer (APC) Committee and oversees seven APC clinics within AUI.

Dr. Sellinger received his Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Syracuse University and attended medical school at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He completed his urology residency at the University of Florida and has lived in Tallahassee since 1991.
